About This Opportunity
Are you a passionate and committed Social Worker looking to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people? Join Cumberland Council's Cared for and Care Experienced Team as a Level 2 Social Worker, where you'll play a vital role in helping children and young people achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.
In this rewarding role, you will work directly with children, young people and their families, building trusted relationships through effective communication, active listening and purposeful direct work. You will assess needs, identify risks, and develop outcome-focused plans that place the child's voice, experiences and aspirations at the centre of decision-making.
Working within a supportive multi-agency environment, you will collaborate with partners across education, health, care and the wider community to ensure children receive the right help at the right time. You'll manage a varied caseload, undertake assessments and interventions, and use evidence-based practice to deliver meaningful, child-centred support.
This role is available on a permanent basis.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
