Opportunity to Gain Experience in the Classroom
Do you enjoy working with children and want to gain valuable experience in the classroom? This is a great opportunity to gain insight into working within a school. You'll learn from sector specialist tutors to develop knowledge, skills, and behaviours to become a teaching assistant and make an impact on pupils’ learning.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Provide teaching support in small groups and, where necessary, be assigned to individual pupils in order to aid the teacher
- Liaise with the teacher to understand the objectives of each session
- Assist the teacher with observations and monitoring of the progress of children, both educationally and socially
- Keep up-to-date written records for supporting pupils
- Promote positive behaviour patterns, raise self-esteem, and improve independent work with children to assist their education and growth
- Depending on school, there may be a specific focus on certain curriculum areas
- It is an interesting, varied position that gives you the valuable opportunities of gaining experience in a professional setting working with young people and colleagues
- You will find out about the teaching paths that are available, and the hope is that this apprenticeship will lead you onto your next step on the career ladder
Teaching Assistants may also undertake some or all of the following:
- Work with individual pupils with special educational needs
- Work with pupils for whom English is not their first language
- Assist in the development of individual development plans for pupils (such as Individual educational plans)
- Support the work of volunteers and other teaching assistants in the classroom
- Support the use of ICT in the curriculum
- Invigilate exams and tests
- Assist in escorting and supervising pupils on educational visits and out-of-school activities
- Select, prepare and clear away classroom materials and learning areas, ensuring they are available for use, including developing and presenting displays
- Support pupils in developing and implementing their own personal social and development
- Assist pupils with eating, dressing and hygiene, as required, whilst encouraging independence
- Monitor and manage stock and supplies for the classroom

- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and End Point Assessment, a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Qualification will be achieved

Desirable qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English and Maths (grade C/4)
- Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

The role will be a position that allows the applicant to work with colleagues within a professional setting. It is an invaluable learning opportunity and is also a role that could be invaluable for an existing member of staff who wishes to extend their personal continued professional development. KS2 learn in the original Victorian half of the school which includes a fabulous library on a mezzanine floor. We also have a bright and airy classroom in the newer building for Reception and KS1 with a delightful outdoor learning space complete with raised beds, a sand pit, a stage, digging area including a digger and a mini bike track.
Our staff are a dedicated, creative and supportive team and our class sizes are small, providing a caring and focused learning environment which meets the individual needs of each and every one of our pupils. Being at the heart of our village community, we pride ourselves on working collaboratively and in close partnership with parents and carers, governors, neighbouring schools and local people. We have strong ties with our church, St Peter and St Paul, which supports us in nurturing our children through sound Christian values; kindness towards others and respect and acceptance that we are all unique. Opportunities for pupil leadership in upper key stage 2 will help to create self-assured children who feel prepared to accept challenges they meet in the future.
Our day starts at 8:50am (doors open at 8:40am) and we finish at 3:20pm. We have a fun breakfast club from 7:45am every morning and exciting after school clubs until 4:20pm running alongside our own wrap around provision until 5:30pm Monday to Thursday and until 4:30pm on Friday.
