Job Description
To work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area, for specified periods of time.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
Responsibilities
- Responsible to their line manager and to the Phase Leader for their duties, responsibilities, and tasks
- Adhere to the school’s values and vision, abiding by the agreed policies and procedures to ensure provision is of the highest quality
- Undertakes support for the teachers of the children within the school and the associated pastoral and administrative duties in respect of those pupils, as well as the general responsibilities in the school as agreed with the Headteacher
- Interact on a professional level with all colleagues and establish and maintain good working relationships which will promote the development and effective delivery of the school curriculum and maximise children’s achievement
- Responsible for the pastoral care and safeguarding of the children within their session, class or groups, ensuring that children’s safety, well-being and welfare are at the forefront of all they do
- Implement agreed work programmes with individual pupils /groups and support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils, including the provision of detailed and specialist skills/knowledge in particular areas
- Assist the teacher in the whole planning, teaching, and assessment cycle
- Supervise and lead groups of children (including during lunchtime)
- Implement all policies and practices in line with the ethos of the school
- Through reflective practice, support a creative, inclusive curriculum which values learning through and smaller group working practices
- Support excellent progress for children across all areas of development through effective participation in observation, assessment and planning
- Help create a stimulating environment which supports learning

Course Contents
- Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
- Adapt communication strategies for the audience and context.
- Apply behaviour management strategies in line with organisational policy.
- Adapt resources to support all learners.
- Communicate with teachers to ensure clarity of the TA’s role.
- Apply teaching strategies to deliver learning activities or interventions.
- Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders.
- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.
Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Qualification
During this teaching assistant apprenticeship (Level 3) you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem, which will play an integral part in pupils’ well-being.
- Become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils.
- Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment.
- It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge.
