Suffolk's councils are working together on one of the most ambitious change programmes the county has ever seen. Through Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), we're creating three new unitary councils and building the foundations for the future of local services across Suffolk.
We're looking for talented people to join our programme team and play a key role in making that happen.
About the Role
As one of the Project Manager’s, you'll play a key role in maintaining visibility across the programme, ensuring workstreams remain connected, informed and focused on delivery. Working across organisational boundaries, you'll help translate programme priorities into coordinated action across Suffolk's councils.
Your Role and Responsibilities
You'll work across several LGR workstreams, acting as the link between workstream leads and the Programme Management Office (PMO). You'll help ensure activity remains coordinated, connected and focused on delivery, while providing visibility of progress, risks, milestones and dependencies across a fast-paced and complex programme.
You will:
- Coordinate and monitor multiple LGR workstreams simultaneously.
- Work with workstream leads and theme sponsors to maintain clear plans, milestones, risks and dependencies.
- Ensure workstreams understand how their activity contributes to the wider programme roadmap.
- Identify and escalate risks, issues and barriers early, acting as the eyes and ears of the PMO.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting and programme information.
- Support workstream leads to meet reporting requirements and programme deadlines.
- Build strong relationships across organisational boundaries and support delivery at pace.
- Help ensure workstreams remain connected, informed and focused on programme priorities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

We hope you’ll bring:
- Strong project management experience, ideally within organisational change, transformation or public sector programmes.
- Experience managing multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously, with strong organisational and prioritisation skills and the ability to maintain visibility across competing priorities.
- A strong understanding of governance, risk management, dependencies, milestone planning and reporting.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and the confidence to challenge constructively where required.
- A good understanding of local government and the complexities of working across organisational boundaries.
- Strong communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- Resilience, initiative and a proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work at pace in an evolving environment.
- A commitment to delivering positive outcomes for Suffolk's residents and communities, recognising how individual workstreams contribute to the wider success of the programme.

Although hosted by Suffolk County Council, this is a genuinely system-wide role working across the full LGR system, bringing together multiple councils, disciplines and partners behind a single shared objective. The team act on behalf of all Suffolk councils and are accountable to the Future Suffolk Implementation Board.
You’ll join a newly established programme team, united by a shared commitment to delivering change that protects services for residents and creates strong, sustainable new councils.
