About the role
Together with Suffolk County Council we have built the West Suffolk Operational Hub (WSOH) near Bury St Edmunds which provides modern facilities from which we deliver waste management services to all the residents of West Suffolk.
Due to continued expansion an opportunity has arisen within our Waste and Street Scene Services team for a vehicle mechanic to support the fleet repair and maintenance team.
You will be responsible for but not limited to the below.
- To undertake regular servicing and repair of light and heavy vehicles, road-sweepers, plant and horticultural equipment
- To attend breakdowns and site visits to provide assistance as required.
- To provide a welding and fabrication service and assist with MOT testing as necessary
- To prepare and maintain work records
- To represent the Council in a professional manner in accordance with customer care policy and the contract specification
- To ensure that all aspects of the work are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Council’s Health & Safety Policy including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as issued
- To carry out any other reasonable tasks commensurate to the grade of this post.
What you will need:
This is a varied and challenging role and we are looking for a strong team player who is well organised, can make an immediate impact, with the ability to work collaboratively with technical teams. You must also be highly self-motivated and be able to plan and prioritise our workshop requirements.
