About the Team
The Client Finance Team supports vulnerable adults who are unable to manage their own financial affairs who have been assessed as lacking mental capacity. Acting as Appointees and Deputies, we help safeguard clients' income, assets and financial wellbeing, ensuring all decisions are made in their best interests.
As part of the Money Advice Unit, we work collaboratively with Adult Social Care colleagues, healthcare professionals, legal services and external organisations to provide specialist financial support and guidance across Hertfordshire.

About The Job
Make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable adults by helping secure the financial support and legal protections they need. You'll coordinate Appointeeship and Deputyship applications, working collaboratively with social care, legal and healthcare professionals, families, the DWP, and the Court of Protection to ensure cases are progressed smoothly, accurately, and in line with legislation.
You'll play a key role in helping vulnerable adults manage their finances and access the support they're entitled to. Working closely with social workers, healthcare professionals, legal teams, and external agencies, you'll coordinate financial protection arrangements and ensure clients receive the right income, benefits, and support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing new referrals and ensuring they meet service criteria.
- Working with colleagues and partner agencies to gather information and progress cases efficiently.
- Supporting applications for Appointeeship and Deputyship through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Court of Protection.
- Helping clients maximise their income by ensuring benefits, pensions, and other entitlements are in place.
- Reviewing financial information, opening and managing client accounts, and supporting financial consolidation where required.
- Liaising with assessment teams to ensure accurate financial assessments and prevent debt from arising.
- Monitoring case progress, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring legal and procedural deadlines are met.
- Managing complex cases in partnership with social care, legal, health, and financial professionals.
- Conducting home and bank visits where required to support clients and progress cases.
- Ensuring cases are appropriately closed and relevant organisations are notified when circumstances change.

About you
We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable adults and has the skills, confidence and professionalism to manage a varied caseload.
You will be an organised and proactive individual with excellent attention to detail, strong numerical skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people. You will be comfortable managing complex information, making informed decisions and working both independently and collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
Essential
- Has knowledge of Appointeeship and Deputyship responsibilities, and experience working with organisations such as the Court of Protection, Office of the Public Guardian or DWP, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
- Understands welfare benefits, financial inclusion or client finance management, or is able to learn and apply this knowledge effectively in the role.
- Has experience managing casework, progressing referrals and reviewing information to make sound, well-informed decisions.
- Is highly organised, with excellent attention to detail, strong numerical skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload effectively.
- Can build positive working relationships and communicate confidently with colleagues, families, professionals and external agencies.
- Is comfortable using IT systems, including Excel and case management databases, and can work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
- Has experience supporting vulnerable adults in a social care or similar setting, and is willing to travel and carry out home and bank visits when required.
