Librarian

Location: HMP Doncaster, Doncaster, DN5 8UX

Salary: £28,798 per annum, plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Full-time Monday- Friday 40 hours per week- 8.30am- 4:30pm

As a Librarian in our Reducing Re-Offending team, you'll deliver a high-quality library service that supports learning, literacy, personal development and rehabilitation. You'll help individuals access educational, legal and recreational resources while creating an inclusive and engaging environment that encourages lifelong learning.

Through promoting reading, supporting independent learning and helping individuals develop new skills, you'll play an important role in creating positive opportunities for the future. Your work has purpose, contributing to rehabilitation, personal growth and positive impact on communities through reducing reoffending.


What you'll do as a Librarian

  • Deliver an accessible and inclusive library service that meets the needs of a diverse population.
  • Manage library resources, stock and lending systems to ensure an effective service.
  • Promote reading, literacy and learning opportunities that support personal development and rehabilitation.
  • Supervise, train and support prisoner library orderlies in library practices and systems.
  • Work collaboratively with prison colleagues and external partners to enhance library and education provision.
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor service performance and ensure compliance with all security and operational requirements.

Does this sound like you?

Essential:

  • You have a qualification in library or information science, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • You have experience working in a library or similar information management environment.
  • You have strong IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
  • You can build positive relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
  • You are organised, detail-focused and able to manage competing priorities in a secure environment.

Vetting and checks:

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
