Licensing Technician

Starting salary £31,771pa with progression to £35,134pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance)

37 hours per week

Permanent contract

We’re looking for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, operation and delivery of licensing administrative systems and processes carried out by the council’s Licensing team within Regulatory Services.

This is an exciting and important role, where you will be involved in a variety of licensing processes which includes the licensing of taxi and private hire vehicles and drivers, alcohol and regulated entertainment premises licences, temporary events, street trading, gambling and animal licensing.

Key responsibilities of this role:

  • To be the first point of contact for all enquiries from licensees, providing necessary and appropriate and specialist detailed information to respond to requests for service within statutory timescales.

  • To be responsible for the management and processing of all renewal and new licence applications from initial receipt and validation through to production of the licence, ensuring all statutory timescales are adhered to, liaising with legal advisors and senior management where necessary. Continually maintain and update files (both paper and electronic) throughout the life of each licence.

  • To manage all public registers of statutory licensing information, including making/ writing regular updates to the council’s website and keeping the website and other relevant forms and documents current through rapidly changing legislation.

  • Be the coordinating officer for the multi-agency Safety Advisory Group which operates within the Borough. To include organisation and coordination of meetings, formulating agendas, preparing and disseminating minutes and dealing with correspondence and maintaining effective communication with all partners.

This is a high-impact role at the heart of a prominent public-facing service, offering the opportunity to deliver an excellent efficient service, whilst continually improving licensing administrative systems and procedures.

We’re seeking a confident, organised and keen individual who can manage varied, time sensitive workloads with detail and accuracy. You will also have a genuine interest in public protection and supporting the business community.

You will have great customer service skills and have experience with working in direct contact with the public.

The role is hybrid with the expectation of attending the office at least once a week, service needs dependent. You will be required to attend meetings, and training when required. You will attend more frequently during your training.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
