About The Role

Our Lifeline Service plays a vital role in helping older and disabled residents across Somerset maintain their independence and confidence at home. Operating around the clock, the team provides an essential reassurance and emergency response service that supports some of our most vulnerable communities.

As a Lifeline Operator, you'll be the calm and trusted voice people turn to when they need help most. Working within our dedicated service, you'll respond to emergency and out-of-hours calls, assess situations quickly, and coordinate the right support to keep residents safe and connected. This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same, and where your empathy, judgement and communication skills can make a real difference to someone's wellbeing. Joining Somerset Council means becoming part of a team that is committed to supporting residents, delivering high-quality services and helping people live independently for longer.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Respond to emergency and urgent calls, providing reassurance and arranging the right support when it is needed most.
  • Assess situations quickly and make informed decisions to help keep vulnerable residents safe and well.
  • Work closely with emergency services, families and other support agencies to ensure timely assistance and positive outcomes.
  • Support council services outside normal office hours, helping residents access assistance and maintaining important service continuity.
  • Maintain accurate records and sensitive information, ensuring services are delivered professionally and in line with council standards.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
