Bouygues UK are seeking an experienced Lifting Appointed Person to support the safe planning and delivery of lifting operations on a major construction project. You would be reporting directly to the Project Director and will receive technical guidance and support from the company's H&S Corporate Lifting Appointed Person, to ensure lifting operations are planned and executed in accordance with company standards, statutory requirements and recognised industry good practice.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an individual who is committed to maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism and workmanship when undertaking lifting management.

  • You will be organised, dependable and capable of working independently whilst recognising the importance of collaboration within the wider project team.
  • Additionally you will demonstrate sound judgement, communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and supply chain and be confident in challenging unsafe practices where necessary.
  • Above all, we are looking for someone who is keen to continue developing their knowledge and experience, embraces constructive feedback, and is committed to maintaining the high standards expected across our projects.

Your Skills Profile Must Include

  • Demonstrable and sound technical judgement and a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Supporting project delivery and contributing to the continual improvement of lifting standards and safe working practices
  • Comfortable working within established company procedures
  • Sound working knowledge of BS 7121, LOLER, PUWER and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Proven experience in planning and managing lifting operations within construction, infrastructure, heavy civil engineering or similar environments
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate and practical lift plans, risk assessments and other associated lifting related documentation
  • Effective communicator with all levels of stakeholders
  • Experience in maintaining clear and accurate documentation throughout the planning and execution of lifting operations
  • A professional approach, with the check the text in yellow
  • Confidence to make informed decisions and challenge unsafe situations where necessary

Qualifications

  • CPCS A61 Appointed Person
  • CPCS A62 Crane Supervisor
  • CPCS A40 Slinger/Signaller
  • SMSTS

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordinating and managing lifting operations on the project in accordance with the current legislation, British Standards and company procedures.
  • Preparing and reviewing lifting plans, risk assessments and supporting supply chain in preparing lifting documentation, ensuring they are suitable for approval in accordance with company procedures.
  • Selecting suitable cranes and other lifting equipment and lifting accessories to ensure lifting operations are adequately planned and executed safely.
  • Working closely with the Project Director, site management, engineers and supply chain partners to coordinate lifting activities and support project delivery.
  • Monitoring lifting operations to ensure compliance with approved lift plans, safe systems of work and company standards.
  • Providing guidance and support to Crane Supervisors, Slinger Signallers and other lifting personnel, helping to develop competence and promote good practices.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture by leading through example, challenging unsafe practices and exercising Stop Work Authority where necessary.
  • Supporting the continual improvement of lifting operations through effective planning, coaching and the sharing of lessons learnt.
