What does the job involve?

The Lifting Engineer is responsible for the planning and execution of safe lifting operations across the Greater Wash assets (Dudgeon, Hywind Scotland, and Sheringham Shoal). The role will ensure that lifting operations are performed in compliance with statutory regulations, company procedures, and industry best practice, whilst driving continuous improvement in operational performance.

The position is part of an engineering team who provide Operation and Maintenance (O&M) support and project management expertise to the Greater Wash assets.

What will my tasks be?

Within this position, your key tasks will be to:

  • Provide technical guidance to O&M teams and contractors on industry standards, lifting regulations, engineering processes, and best practice.
  • Act as the LOLER Appointed Person, ensuring all Equinor and Contractor lifting operations are correctly planned, risk-assessed, and executed in compliance with LOLER and internal governance.
  • Create, maintain, and oversee the accuracy of lifting documentation including lift plans, risk assessments, working procedures, lifting equipment registers, and certification.
  • Carry out compliance assurance activities in relation to lift planning, personnel competence, and lifting equipment.
  • Conduct integrity audit activities for material handling equipment, in accordance with asset performance standard assurance programmes.
  • Support the preparation of Operational Risk Assessments (ORA), Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and maintenance instructions related to material handling.
  • Support and manage the planning, execution, and closeout of maintenance and modification campaigns.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promote a strong safety culture.
  • Deliver in compliance with Equinor management system governance, laws, and regulations.
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective risk management throughout task planning and execution phases.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in operation and maintenance processes, systems, and practices. Encourage innovation, implementation of best practice, and leverage technology to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to a diverse and dynamic team by sharing knowledge and experience.

  • HNC/HND or BEng in Mechanical Engineering and/or Structural Engineering (or similar).
  • Lifting qualifications or demonstrable relevant knowledge and competence in lift planning and engineering.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH qualification (desirable).
  • Thorough working knowledge of LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and BS 7121.
  • Experience in writing/reviewing lift plans and in the execution of lifting operations.
  • Experience in offshore wind (desirable).
  • Willingness to complete full GWO offshore certification and medical.
  • Flexibility to travel onshore and offshore to all Greater Wash asset locations.
  • Experience working within a Computerised Maintenance Management System, e.g., SAP.
  • A clear and confident communicator, fluent in spoken and written English, with strong interpersonal skills.
