The Role
As a Prep Engineer in Lighting Department, you will be responsible for assisting with the preparation and maintenance of lighting fixtures and control equipment, atmospherics/FX equipment, data and mains cabling, mains distribution and related equipment in our warehouse, and offering remote support for these systems on site.
The ability to work as part of the wider team and other departments and prioritise tasks are paramount to the role. The skills and expertise you will learn in the role are valuable to other departments at Creative Technology and you can expect to find times where you are required to work with these other teams developing your own knowledge and teamwork.
Previous experience of live events is advantageous. Working with professional lighting equipment and systems is required.
Responsibilities
Project
- Building and configuring lighting control systems, including racks typically containing processors, network switches, DMX nodes, buffers and ancillary items.
- Prepping and testing of moving and static lighting fixtures, lighting consoles and control equipment, FX equipment [smoke/haze], power and data cabling, mains distribution and associated components.
- Packing prepped equipment, ensuring it will not be damaged in transit and contains everything required to get the equipment working on site.
- Completing quality control on prepped systems prior to shipping.
- Monitoring and reporting of losses and damages to all departmental equipment.
- Monitoring of future rental requirements for projects and reporting short falls and tight turnarounds to the relevant technical, project or rental teams.

Department
- Configuration of lighting fixtures, control & FX equipment to ensure robust testing to department standard procedures and to the highest level of quality.
- Check in, check out and maintenance of all department rental stock.
- Assisting the department to ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained to the highest standard.
- Sharing responsibility for maintaining tidy, efficient prep and warehouse areas.
Other Responsibilities
- Constantly working to improve your knowledge of our equipment and the technology that drives it.
- Complete all training required by the company.
- Actively engage with the rest of the engineering teams and freelancers to gain knowledge and experience that may build your own capabilities.
- Make your line manager aware of any training or manufacturer demonstration opportunities that you come across.
- Uphold the high standards of delivery and professionalism expected by Creative Technology and our clients.
- Adhere to all company policies and processes.
- Assist other teams with the overall delivery of projects and proactively find these opportunities when time permits.
- Awareness of previous and upcoming equipment requirements with a view to speed up the preparation process

Skills / Qualifications
- A passion for technology
- Ability to learn new technology, systems and processes from any source available. This may be formal training, user manuals, online resources or just getting hands on.
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong Interpersonal and communication skills
