The Role
As Project Engineer in the Lighting department, you will be responsible for providing technical and equipment expertise to the Projects and Account Managers as required. From these conversations, you will be required to assign equipment and systems capable of delivering projects to the robust standards expected by Creative Technology and our clients.
The ability to think strategically and deliver well thought out technical solutions to problems are paramount to the role. You will need to maintain the high technical knowledge you already have, whilst also becoming familiar with the wide range of equipment and services offered by the Creative Technology.
The role involves being responsible for multiple projects at any given time, some of which will require your presence on site. The ability to document systems and instructions, train full-time and freelance staff and deliver remote support to these systems is imperative.
Responsibilities
Department
- Keep abreast new equipment, solutions and innovations as they come to market and working with the Technical Managers to recommend and test these as required.
- Lead your project prep to ensure all the systems and equipment for your project is prepared to the high standards expected, highlighting areas for improvement in delivery regardless of department.
- Providing ad-hoc training for other engineers and technicians on equipment and systems.
- Supporting the Rental Team with suggestions of alternative equipment or suppliers when equipment can’t be sourced from internal stock.
- Where appropriate, suggest opportunities for others to support your delivery on site to allowing them to gain valuable on-site experience.
- Use all opportunities to teach, mentor or coach colleagues.
- Provide, or pass on feedback on all aspects of the company’s technical delivery including equipment, staff, freelancers and processes, and ways they could be improved.
- Take good consideration of the technical capabilities of the company’s equipment, services and staff and actively contribute to the best use, technical direction and future of the resources.
- Periodically you will be scheduled to spend up to two weeks in the department to cover our Engineer in Charge role, answering technical questions from colleagues, providing the quality control point to projects leaving the department and leading by example.
- Ensuring you working area is kept neat and tidy, clearing down after every prep to keep the department running as efficiently as possible.

Projects
- Acting as Head of Department on site, heading up the technical team to deliver projects to the highest standard, supporting your colleagues and clients as required. This will involve you spending periods of time away from home, some of which may be prolonged depending on the project requirements.
- Actively assisting and overseeing projects from a technical and equipment point of view. Even with your engineering specialisms, it is advantageous to have foundational knowledge wide range of technical disciplines offered by Creative Technology.
- Use your strong technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to suggest and guide other teams towards the best technical solution for any given requirement, fault or problem on site. This will also include checking projects are technically complete, suggesting best practices and alternatives to resolve equipment shortages.
- Oversee the delivery of the technical elements of a project on site during all phases of the delivery, including fault-finding, problem solving and assisting with the management and tasking of full-time and freelance crew.
- Supporting staff, equipment and systems remotely if issues arise on site.
- During busy times you may be required to prep your equipment and projects to ensure delivery. This should be used as an opportunity to support and mentor apprentices and technicians.
- Produce documentation to allow for smooth pre-production, prep and delivery on site, as well as allowing better for improved delivery of repeat projects. This documentation will include drawings, plots, schematics, patch and cable schedules, instructional and handover documents, and debrief/post-show reports. This documentation is required in a timely manner both before, during and after the project.
- Where appropriate, suggest opportunities for others to deliver the project on site to allow you to concentrate on other work, whilst allowing others to gain valuable on-site experience.

Other Responsibilities
- Develop strong relationships with freelancers and technical support from manufacturers and suppliers.
- Complete any and all training required by the company.
- Work with the other departments to maintain the high standards of equipment, prep and support expected from Creative Technology.
- Adhere to internal processes, feeding back suggestions and improvements where you see them.
- You are expected to travel to site where applicable both in the UK and Worldwide
- Support where needed on Internal and external ISO accreditation audits
- Support other teams when and where required such as purchasing
Skills / Qualifications
- A passion for technology
- Ability to learn new technology, systems and processes from any source available. This may be formal training, user manuals, online resources or just getting hands on.
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong Interpersonal and communication skills
