About the Role

Our youth mental health workbook for 9-11 year olds was written by a therapeutic practitioner, but the tone/reading level aren't quite right for primary-aged children. We need a volunteer to line edit, copy edit and proofread around 2,000 words to make it warmer, clearer and age-appropriate.

What difference will you make?

This copy sits inside a workbook that goes directly into the hands of young people referred to us for early mental health or behavioural support. If the words are too complex or the tone too grown-up, a child may disengage or feel talked at rather than talked to, right when clarity and warmth matter most. Getting the language right means every young person who works through this book with their TRAIN mentor can understand and use it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Someone with a strong eye for clear, simple writing and a good feel for how children read and speak, ideally with experience writing or editing for a similar age group (KS2, primary-aged, or children's mental health/wellbeing content). Editing or proofreading experience is important.

Remote

What will you be doing?

  • Line edit, copy edit and proofread around 2,000 words of existing content for a mental health workbook aimed at 9-11 year olds (KS2).
  • The copy was written by a therapeutic practitioner, so the ideas and structure are sound, but the tone sometimes reads as adult or clinical, and a few phrases and words will be above the reading age of the audience.
  • We need someone to simplify language where needed, tighten overly long or wordy sentences, make the tone warmer and more direct, and catch typos and errors throughout.
  • You'll work directly with me to agree the tone we're aiming for, then edit page by page.
