Linguist III – AI / Multilingual Research

Contract Length: 1 year (possible extension)

Client: Global Social Media Platform

We are looking for a Linguist III to support AI research within a multilingual research team. This role focuses on linguistic analysis, AI model evaluation, multilingual datasets, and improving AI performance across low-resource and massively multilingual languages.

The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Linguistics or a closely related field, strong theoretical linguistics knowledge, hands-on Python and SQL, and the ability to work independently with research scientists, engineers, and data teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze large linguistic datasets and identify common and critical errors in AI model outputs.
• Build, test, and improve evaluation and challenge datasets for AI models.
• Work on areas such as:
  • Machine translation
  • Linguistic reasoning
  • Spontaneous speech
  • Debate and tutoring
  • Pronoun resolution
• Create and update guidelines for human annotation and translation tasks.
• Conduct linguistic, typological, and sociolinguistic research, particularly for low-resource and massively multilingual languages.
• Support Responsible AI research, including analysis of:
  • Toxic language
  • Hate speech
  • Gender bias
• Work closely with research scientists, ML engineers, data scientists, and native speakers across different languages.
• Review the quality of work delivered by external language/data vendors.
• Read, modify, and run Python data science notebooks, including pandas-based workflows.
• Query and analyze data using SQL.
• Independently manage complex research requests, prioritize tasks, track progress, and communicate findings clearly.
