The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior HPC Engineer with a minimum of 10 years in enterprise IT, including significant hands-on experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, securing, and maintaining our Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) infrastructure across versions 7, 8, and 9, with a strong focus on HPC workload management, scientific application support, and direct collaboration with research scientists.

This role sits within a team responsible for delivering and sustaining the scientific computing environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a research-driven setting, is comfortable working alongside scientists, and brings both deep technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to solve complex problems in a collaborative manner.

Key responsibilities:

HPC Infrastructure & Linux Administration:

  • Administer, configure, patch, and maintain RHEL 7, 8, and 9 environments, ensuring system stability, performance, and security across HPC clusters and high-end workstations.
  • Deploy, configure, and manage the Slurm workload manager, including job scheduling, queue management, partition configuration, and fair-share policies.
  • Monitor cluster health, resource utilisation, and job throughput, implementing performance tuning as required.
  • Manage cluster networking, storage mounts and interconnects relevant to HPC workloads.

Scientific Application Support:

  • Install, configure, and maintain scientific software packages, compilers, libraries, and MPI stacks required by research teams.
  • Work closely with scientists to understand their computational needs and translate these into appropriate HPC configurations and workflows.
  • Diagnose and resolve application-level issues, liaising with software vendors and developers where necessary.
  • Assist scientists in optimising their jobs for efficient use of cluster resources.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
