Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer
Location: London, UK/Hybrid
Contract: 6 Months
Rate: £550 P/D
We are looking for an experienced Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join a large-scale, global technology environment in London.
This is a hands-on senior engineering position supporting a complex and business-critical infrastructure estate. You’ll work across a large production environment, helping to design, maintain and modernise Linux platforms that underpin critical applications and services. We’re looking for someone with deep Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) expertise, strong Ansible automation capabilities and the confidence to take ownership of complex technical initiatives from design through to implementation.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging infrastructure problems, improving reliability through automation and building platforms designed for long-term scalability and resilience.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, engineer and support enterprise Red Hat Linux (RHEL) environments across physical, virtual and cloud platforms.
- Own the installation, configuration, maintenance and full lifecycle management of Red Hat systems, including upgrades, patching and decommissioning.
- Design and maintain highly available, secure and scalable Linux platforms supporting business-critical workloads.
- Develop and maintain automation using Ansible / Ansible Automation Platform, Bash and Python.
- Administer and integrate Red Hat technologies including Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Insights and subscription management.
- Work closely with security teams to implement hardening standards, vulnerability remediation and compliance requirements.
- Support compliance frameworks such as CIS, STIG, SOX and PCI, where applicable.
- Troubleshoot complex operating system, performance, storage, networking and application issues.
- Lead root-cause analysis and implement preventative measures to improve platform stability and resilience.
- Support virtualised and containerised environments, including VMware, KVM, OpenShift and Kubernetes, where they support Linux workloads.
- Participate in an on-call rota and provide advanced technical support during major incidents.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks and standard operating procedures.
- Act as a senior escalation point and technical advisor for Linux infrastructure across wider technology teams.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, helping to establish engineering standards and best practices.
- Contribute to infrastructure modernisation initiatives, including cloud adoption, hybrid infrastructure and platform optimisation.

What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience
- 7+ years’ experience working with enterprise Linux environments, with strong hands-on expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Strong understanding of Linux system internals, performance tuning, networking, filesystems and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience with Ansible, including developing playbooks, roles and automation workflows at enterprise scale.
- Strong Bash scripting skills and the ability to automate operational processes.
- Experience supporting Linux within large-scale, high-availability production environments.
- Strong knowledge of Linux security hardening, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
- Experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware and/or KVM.
- Exposure to container platforms such as Kubernetes and OpenShift.
- Ability to independently lead complex technical projects and infrastructure initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Experience
- Python experience, particularly for infrastructure automation and tooling.
- RHCSA or RHCE certification.
- Experience administering IBM AIX.
- Experience working with AWS, Azure or GCP within hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as SolarWinds or similar technologies.
- Experience with ServiceNow or other ITSM platforms for incident, problem and change management.
- Experience supporting large-scale ERP environments, such as Oracle EBS, Microsoft Dynamics or similar platforms.
