About the Role
15-year-old, profitable, founder-led business operating in the B2C video game server hosting space, with Minecraft as its core product. You'd be joining a small, senior infrastructure team of three (currently based in Greece, US East and US West) as the fourth hire, and the first based in the UK — aligning your working hours with the Head of Infrastructure and the CTO/Co-Founder, both UK-based.
- Reporting line: Head of Infrastructure → CTO/Co-Founder
- Location: 100% remote, no office. One occasional annual in-person meetup.
- Hours: Core UK 9–5, Mon–Fri. Some out-of-hours work happens, but the follow-the-sun team structure keeps this to a minimum.
- Customer-facing: No — this is a pure infrastructure/engineering role.
You'd be joining a team that has built this infrastructure from the ground up, not one that's simply keeping the lights on for something inherited. Expect to be creating, not just maintaining.

- Bare metal Linux administration at scale — this is the #1 requirement. Candidates need genuine bare metal experience; cloud-only backgrounds (AWS, Azure, etc.) are a mismatch, not a transferable skillset, and are actively not what they're looking for.
- Solid, all-round Linux administration as table stakes: Bash, Apache, Docker, MySQL, Linux firewalls, RAID management.
- Minimum 5 years' experience — 3 years is too junior for this. The sweet spot is 5–10 years; there's no upper ceiling on experience.
- A track record of building infrastructure, not solely operating what someone else designed.
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, scrappy environment. SME/startup backgrounds are strongly preferred over large corporate environments (e.g. banking/enterprise IT).
- Experience managing "a few hundred servers or more" is perfectly acceptable — candidates do not need to have operated at 4,000-server scale already.

- A home lab setup — this came up repeatedly and unprompted in the brief. It's treated as a strong signal of genuine passion, a bare-metal mindset, and self-starter energy.
- Security experience — this alone could justify pushing to the top of the salary band.
- An interest in gaming or game-server hosting culture (mod packs, Minecraft, etc.) — a nice-to-have culture fit, not a requirement.
- Competitor/industry background is welcome but not necessary — all tooling is proprietary, so prior exposure to this specific niche isn't a prerequisite.
Explicitly not required
- A CS degree or formal education background — not assessed at any stage.
- Prior game-server hosting experience specifically.
Personality fit
- Genuinely passionate about the craft — not just clocking in for the pay cheque.
- Chill, friendly, good sense of humour.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and pressure.
- Curious — builds things for the love of it, not just because the ticket says so.
