About The Role
The Linux System Engineer role at CGI is a vital position within the company's Space, Defence, and Intelligence business unit. This unit focuses on delivering complex, mission-critical technical solutions to government agencies, ensuring national security and operational effectiveness. As a Linux System Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and enhancing secure Linux environments across both production and non-production systems. Your role involves diagnosing and resolving system issues, optimizing deployment processes, and maintaining high-performance, reliable platforms that underpin sensitive operations. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to support cloud migration, security transformation initiatives, and the adoption of hybrid cloud architectures. Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a solid foundation in Linux system administration within secure environments, complemented by a proactive approach and strong troubleshooting skills. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of hands-on experience managing enterprise Linux distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, or Ubuntu. Proficiency in Linux command-line tools, shell scripting, system monitoring, patching, and performance tuning is essential. Knowledge of networking concepts relevant to Linux environments, security hardening practices, and experience with automation tools are also required. Exposure to cloud platforms, virtualized infrastructure, or infrastructure-as-code tools is advantageous. Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain DV Security Clearance, be a sole UK national, and meet residency requirements for security clearance eligibility.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve system issues across both production and non-production Linux environments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Administer and maintain enterprise Linux systems, implementing security hardening measures and performance enhancements.
- Automate deployment processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and reliability across systems.
- Support cloud adoption initiatives, including hybrid cloud strategies, system migrations, and infrastructure modernization.
- Implement and enhance security protocols, including zero-trust models, to safeguard sensitive data and operations.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop best practices, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system configurations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by monitoring system health, applying patches, and tuning performance parameters.
