PUBLIC INQUIRY LITIGATION COUNSEL
Major International Law Firm | Remote UK | Contract | Qualified Solicitor | Public Inquiry Experience | Security Clearance Required
Accuflex is working with a major international law firm to recruit a Litigation Associate with substantive public inquiry experience to join its specialist inquiry team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor who already understands the practical and procedural demands of major public inquiries and is looking to work on a significant long-term matter with one of the world's leading law firms.
Security clearance is required for this instruction, so candidates must be able to satisfy the relevant clearance requirements.
THE ROLE
Working as part of an established public inquiries team, you will support substantive legal work across the inquiry. Depending on your experience, responsibilities are likely to include:
- Analysis of inquiry evidence and identification of key factual and legal issues
- Disclosure strategy, review and management
- Preparing and reviewing witness statements
- Drafting and responding to Rule 9 requests
- Legal research and analysis of inquiry material
- Preparing chronologies and evidential summaries
- Case preparation and hearing support
- Advising on sensitive or complex evidential issues
- Working closely with senior lawyers across key inquiry workstreams
- Liaising with clients, witnesses and other stakeholders
- Taking ownership of defined areas of the inquiry and progressing matters independently

THE CANDIDATE
We are looking for a qualified solicitor who has genuine, hands-on experience of public inquiry work.
The successful candidate should understand how an inquiry operates in practice and be comfortable working with evidence, disclosure, witness material and the procedural requirements of a major inquiry.
This is likely to suit someone who has worked for an inquiry itself, a Government department, a core participant or a law firm representing parties involved in a major statutory inquiry.
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
- Qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales
- Experience working on a statutory public inquiry
- The ability to satisfy the required security clearance
- Practical experience of disclosure and evidence analysis
- Experience preparing or reviewing witness statements
- Knowledge of Rule 9 requests and inquiry procedure
- Strong drafting and analytical skills
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information
- Excellent client care and communication skills
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of matters
- Confidence working closely with senior lawyers on complex workstreams
- A calm, organised and practical approach to high-profile matters
HIGHLY DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Experience gained on major UK public inquiries would be particularly valuable, including work relating to:

- The Grenfell Tower Inquiry
- The Thirlwall Inquiry
- The Undercover Policing Inquiry
- Other major statutory or Government inquiries
Current or previously held security clearance would also be particularly advantageous.
