Litigation Executive: Graduate Scheme
About Legal Advisor
Legal Advisor is a growing law firm based in Bolton, Greater Manchester. With more than 50 professionals, we act for people who need access to justice in housing matters, advising and representing clients in disputes with private landlords, housing associations, and local authorities. Operating under the trading style legaladvisor.co.uk, the firm is part of Malone & White Solicitors Ltd, offering a professional and supportive environment for early career legal professionals.
Job Description
This is a graduate scheme. The Litigation Executive will run a caseload of housing law files within our Housing Law Department, with training and supervision throughout, on a defined pathway to qualification.
About the Role
Solicitor & Training contract pathway. Paralegal and CILEX pathway.
This is the role our Trainee Solicitors come from. We do not run a separate training contract intake. We appoint from among our own Litigation Executives, on the strength of their work and their appraisals, and we meet the cost of the SQE in full.
Qualification as a solicitor is not the only route open to you. We also support qualification through CILEX, and we recognise that not everyone joining us wants to become a solicitor. Both pathways start with the same work: running housing law files of your own.
As a Litigation Executive, you will:
- Investigate and assess claims, review evidence, and advise on liability.
- Instruct experts and consider their reports.
- Draft correspondence and legal documents.
- Keep clients updated on progress.
- Negotiate settlements.
You will be trained throughout, starting with a structured induction when you join and continuing as your caseload develops.
We welcome applications from graduates of any discipline. Prior legal experience is an advantage but is not required.
Pathway one: Route to qualification as a solicitor
Stage I
- Appointment. You join a housing law team as a Litigation Executive and complete our structured induction.
Stage II
- Casework and training. You build a caseload of your own, with training continuing as you go.
Stage III
- Formal review. Your progress is formally reviewed. SQE funding and a training contract are offered on the strength of that review.
Stage IV
- Funded SQE. The firm meets the cost of your SQE, and your time here counts as qualifying work experience.
Stage V
- Trainee Solicitor. Appointment as a Trainee Solicitor, and admission on completion.
Pathway two: Paralegal and CILEX route
The CILEX Professional Qualification (CPQ) is a route to qualification as a lawyer that is completed entirely in the workplace, in a single specialist area of law. For those building a career in housing law, it is a strong alternative to the SQE.
Paralegal
- You join a housing law team and complete our structured induction, then build a caseload of your own.
- Progression to CILEX Paralegal status on completion of CPQ Foundation.
Advanced Paralegal
- You take on more complex files with greater autonomy.
- Progress to CILEX Advanced Paralegal on completion of CPQ Advanced.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

CILEX Lawyer
- On completion of CPQ Professional and the required period of qualifying employment, you qualify as a CILEX Lawyer and Chartered Legal Executive, with the option to apply for practice rights in your specialist area.
The CPQ is studied alongside the role, with your day-to-day casework counting towards the qualifying employment requirement. Study support and course fees are met by the firm for those who progress, on the same appraisal basis as the solicitor pathway.
Some of our people qualify through CILEX and stay in practice as Chartered Legal Executives. Others use it as a route towards the solicitor pathway. We will talk through both with you at your formal review rather than deciding for you at the point of hire.
