Live in Lifestyle Assistant to a History Uni Student

We are recruiting on behalf of a history student at the University of Oxford who is looking for enthusiastic, reliable and like-minded individuals to join his support team.
This is much more than a care role. It's an opportunity to support a young adult as he embraces university life, develops his independence and experiences everything that Oxford has to offer.
You'll provide practical and personal support while also encouraging independence, social opportunities and new experiences. In return, you'll have the opportunity to become part of an individual's university journey and make a meaningful difference along the way.

Live-in, 7 days on / 7 days off, during University Term Time only
Rate of Pay
£188 per day

About Our Client
Our client is a History student living on the St Hilda's College campus at the University of Oxford. He has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and requires support with aspects of his personal care, medication, daily living and social activities.
He is an independent young man who is excited about living away from home and developing his confidence and independence at university. He values having his own space and will communicate when he needs it, so the ability to provide support while respecting personal boundaries is important.
He enjoys reading, particularly history, and loves a good conversation. His interests include Doctor Who, politics and political history, theatre (especially Shakespeare), cinema, quiz shows, video games and a wide variety of music.
He also enjoys classic films, including old horror films and James Bond, as well as action and comedy. He describes himself as a bit of a geek and has a great sense of humour.

In his own words:
I am roughly 1.6 metres high with a slight build. I enjoy disability athletics at the weekend when I am at home. I am easy going with a good sense of humour, also can be geeky, kind and caring.
I enjoy reading (especially history books), video games and hanging out with friends.
My interests are watching Doctor Who, politics and political history, reading, theatre (particularly Shakespeare), cinema and watching quiz shows. I also enjoy a good chat, and I have a very varied taste in music!
I love classic old movies, James Bond, action and comedy as well. Personally, I am a bit of a geek! I try to be as positive and enthusiastic as possible, although I am still finding my confidence.
If possible, I would like to be a part of a few societies and clubs, as I would like to develop my independence and just enjoy all aspects of student life.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to support our client to achieve his goals and make the most of his university experience.
Working as part of his support team, your responsibilities may include:
- Personal care: Supporting with bathing, dressing and toileting.
- Health care: Administering medication and assisting with medical equipment.
- Daily living: Cooking, shopping and helping with day-to-day tasks.
- Appointments: Accompanying him to medical and other appointments when required.
- Social support: Supporting him to attend activities, clubs, societies, talks and social events.
- Domestic support: Helping with general housekeeping and keeping the accommodation clean and tidy.
- Promoting independence: Providing the right level of support while encouraging confidence, choice and independence.
No two days are necessarily the same, and the role is as much about supporting independence and university life as it is about providing practical care.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Physically fit and able to undertake the practical aspects of the role.
- Calm, patient, caring and compassionate.
- Mature, responsible and dependable.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Well organised, with good attention to detail.
- Open-minded and positive about trying new experiences.
- Comfortable working in a live-in environment while respecting personal space and boundaries.
- Friendly and sociable, with a good sense of humour.
- Clean and tidy in both appearance and approach.
- Fluent in English.
- A non-smoker.

Previous care experience is not necessarily essential if you have the right attitude, personality and willingness to learn. What matters most is that you are reliable, respectful and genuinely interested in supporting a young person to live as independently as possible.
