Join our church technical team in Thamesmead and help manage live and broadcast audio during Sunday services. Monitor the quality of our livestream sound, support stage audio, communicate with musicians and operators, and make appropriate adjustments alongside our lead sound engineer.
What difference will you make?
Clear and balanced audio is essential to both our physical worship services and our online broadcasts.
Sound that works well inside a venue does not always translate properly to a livestream. The balance between speech, singers, drums, keyboards, bass and other instruments can sound very different to someone watching online.
Having a dedicated Live Sound & Broadcast Audio Assistant would give our technical team another person who is specifically listening to the quality of the broadcast rather than relying entirely on the person mixing sound within the venue.
This would help us
- Improve the clarity and consistency of our livestream audio.
- Identify broadcast-audio problems more quickly.
- Provide better balance between vocals, speech and instruments.
- Improve communication between musicians and the technical team.
- Support better stage sound and monitoring.
- Reduce pressure on our lead sound engineer.
- Provide additional technical cover during busy parts of the service.
- Improve the experience of both our physical congregation and online audience.
- Produce better-quality recordings for YouTube, social media and future use.
- Develop a stronger and more sustainable church audio team.
The volunteer's contribution would therefore have a direct impact on one of the most important elements of our live and online production what people can actually hear.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with a good ear for sound, technical confidence and a genuine interest in understanding how live and broadcast audio work together.
The ideal volunteer will have
- Relevant experience in live sound, broadcast audio, music production, audio engineering, AV, recording or a related field.
- Experience with digital audio mixers or a willingness and ability to learn them.
- A good understanding of audio balance and the relationship between vocals, speech and musical instruments.
- The ability to listen critically and recognise when something does not sound right.
- An understanding of gain levels, EQ and basic audio signal flow.
- Awareness that the livestream mix may require different adjustments from the sound heard inside the venue.
- Ability to communicate effectively with musicians, singers and other technical operators.
- Confidence identifying problems and communicating required changes quickly.
- Good concentration and attention to detail during live services.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately when technical problems occur.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- A strong willingness and dedication to learn and continually improve their technical knowledge.

Applicants do not need to understand our entire sound system from day one. We particularly value someone who is technically curious, willing to listen critically, asks sensible questions and is committed to developing their knowledge of both live and broadcast audio.
Previous Church Experience Is Not Required.
What will you be doing?
Royal Priesthood Pentecostal Church (UK) is looking for a technically capable and dependable Live Sound & Broadcast Audio Assistant to join our Sunday production team.
The volunteer will work alongside our lead sound engineer and help ensure that audio is clear, balanced and appropriate both inside the venue and for people watching our services online.
A major part of the role will be actively monitoring the quality of the audio being sent to our livestream and identifying where adjustments are needed.

Responsibilities will include
- Monitoring the audio quality of our livestream and broadcast output throughout services.
- Listening critically to vocals, speech, instruments and overall balance from the perspective of the online audience.
- Identifying issues such as vocals being too quiet, instruments overpowering the mix, excessive low frequencies, feedback, distortion or poor overall balance.
- Communicating required adjustments to the lead sound engineer.
- Making appropriate adjustments to the digital mixer when required and authorised.
- Supporting the management of microphones, singers, instruments and other live audio sources.
- Helping manage appropriate sound levels on stage and within the venue.
- Communicating with musicians and singers regarding monitoring, microphones, instrument levels and other sound requirements.
- Communicating with the Broadcast & Presentation Operator and other media-team members when audio issues affect the livestream.
- Monitoring audio signal levels and identifying clipping, distortion, missing signals or other technical problems.
- Assisting with sound checks before services.
- Helping test microphones, instruments, DI connections and other audio equipment.
- Troubleshooting basic audio, cabling and signal-routing problems.
- Supporting the lead sound engineer during worship, preaching, prayer and other parts of the service.
This is an assistant technical role within an existing sound team rather than sole responsibility for the entire sound system.
Because we operate from a hired school venue, our technical equipment must be set up before services. We would therefore, if possible, also value someone who can attend on Saturday afternoons, normally from approximately 2:00–3:00 PM onwards, to assist with setup, connection, testing and preparation.
