Overview

A well-established securities trading firm is hiring for an LME Trading Operations role based in Central London. The position is permanent, full-time, and hybrid with three days a week in the office. The salary is £60,000 to £80,000.

This role sits within the Trading and COO function and is a good fit for someone with solid, hands-on LME operations experience across the core mechanics of the market. Day-to-day, the work covers the operational running of LME trading activity, supporting market participants, and contributing to the smooth functioning of key processes. If you know how the LME works from the inside and are comfortable working across a range of operational tasks in a collaborative team, this is a strong opportunity to step into a senior individual contributor position at AVP grade.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for LME trading activity across electronic and venue-based environments
  • Support market participants with trading queries and ensure service standards are maintained
  • Contribute to margining, settlement, clearing and warrant-related processes
  • Participate in reference price generation and the determination of closing prices where applicable
  • Monitor and escalate observations of unusual trading activity to the appropriate function
  • Contribute to business change activity, including requirements discussions and UAT
  • Maintain and update operational procedures and documentation in areas of expertise
  • Represent the function in stakeholder meetings, including with regulators where required

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What Success Looks Like

  • Running day-to-day LME operations reliably and to a high standard from early on
  • Building credible relationships with market participants and internal stakeholders
  • Demonstrating broad LME market knowledge across clearing, settlement, margining, and warrants
  • Contributing positively to the team and fitting naturally into a collaborative working environment

Team and Culture

  • A small, cross-functional team where collaboration and mutual respect matter as much as technical knowledge
  • Working closely with functions including Market Surveillance and Compliance
  • A culture where the right person is given the time and space to settle in properly, with no pressure to deliver overnight

Challenges

  • The LME market has real operational complexity, and the role requires someone comfortable across multiple areas rather than a narrow specialism
  • Pace and precision both matter, particularly around time-sensitive processes like settlement and reference price generation
  • Regulatory awareness is part of the job, so candidates need to be comfortable working within a structured, rules-based environment
