The Revenues Service

The Revenues Service is a large team of more than 60 people working together to collect £340 million of corporate revenue to help the Council provide vital services to Coventry residents. From council tax to business rates to invoices for stalls at the Godiva Festival, the team perform a range of roles to ensure we provide excellent services to residents and internal council departments and that ultimately, we maximise the collection of public funds. The revenue we collect ensures the council can provide services from bin collections to looking after our parks and green spaces to providing the best possible chances in life for our looked after children.

Our team is uniquely placed within the council as we interact with every one of Coventry’s 140,000 residential properties and 9,000 commercial properties. Every resident and customer we deal with has a unique set of circumstances - our team challenge those who can pay and don’t pay – applying a range of legal remedies to compel people to pay what they owe. But the team also listen to and support those who can’t pay and help some of our most vulnerable residents find a way out of debt.

About The Role

Local Authorities are responsible for billing and collection of business rates and council tax. These taxes help pay for Local Authority (Council) services, including education, social care, housing, libraries, waste management and licencing.

You will be responsible for assessing the tax liability for Coventry businesses and residents in line with legislation. You will manage your own caseload but work as part of a team responsible for collecting more than £150 million of public funds. You will gather information and evidence to ensure tax liabilities are calculated and collected effectively. You will provide excellent customer service to our local business community, residents, partners and council departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain local taxation accounts in accordance with legislation and council policies.
  • Check liability and issue bills, amendments and notices accurately.
  • Accurately assess eligibility for reliefs, exemptions and discounts.
  • Request relevant information and supporting documents from ratepayers, agents and other organisations and complete all associated actions.
  • Investigate and resolve account queries and discrepancies.
  • Deliver excellent customer service through telephone, email, correspondence and face-to-face contact.
  • Maintain accurate account records to support performance standards and audit requirements.
  • Correctly process changes relating to occupation, ownership and property alterations.
  • Liaise with the Valuation Office, enforcement agents and internal departments.
  • Positively contribute to income collection targets and service improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all work is completed within statutory timescales and performance standards.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
