Job Summary
Are you an experienced food regulation professional with a strong understanding of how local authorities deliver official food and feed controls? Do you enjoy working with a wide range of stakeholders to support food safety, regulatory assurance and international trade outcomes across the UK?
The Food Standards Agency is looking for a Local Authority Delivery Advisor to play a key role in supporting export audits conducted by international trading partners and helping prepare local authorities for changes arising from Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) developments. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-profile work that supports confidence in the UK's food control system and facilitates trade.
Working within the UK and International Affairs Directorate, you will collaborate with colleagues across the FSA, devolved governments and local authorities to ensure delivery considerations are reflected in audit activity, policy development and implementation planning. Your expertise will help support effective regulatory delivery and provide practical solutions to complex challenges.
Job Description
You will act as a subject matter expert on the delivery of food and feed official controls by local authorities, supporting preparation for and participation in audits undertaken by the European Union and other international trading partners. This will include gathering evidence, preparing briefing materials, contributing to audit responses, supporting site visits and presenting information to stakeholders as required.
You will also support the FSA's SPS programme by assessing the operational implications of policy and legislative developments, helping to shape guidance and training materials, and maintaining strong relationships with local authority partners. Working across multiple teams and programmes, you will respond to stakeholder queries, contribute to briefing materials and help ensure a coordinated approach to achieving regulatory and organisational objectives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
