We are now looking for an experienced, confident, and values-led practitioner to join our Quality Assurance Team as Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
The Role
As our Local Authority Designated Officer, you will have a pivotal role in safeguarding children and young people by overseeing and managing allegations and concerns relating to adults who work or volunteer with children.

You will work closely with the Police, Children's Social Care, education, health, HR professionals, employers, and other safeguarding partners, coordinating complex multi-agency processes and ensuring that children remain at the centre of decision-making.

You will have:
- A recognised professional qualification in Social Work and current registration with Social Work England.
- Significant experience of statutory children's social work within a local authority setting.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, public protection, and legislation relating to violent and sexual offences.
- An understanding of HR processes, employment matters, and safer recruitment.
- Significant experience of chairing complex multi-disciplinary meetings and managing competing risks and priorities.
- The confidence to provide professional challenge and advice to senior managers, employers, and partner organisations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Experience of performance management, quality assurance, and monitoring.
- The ability to work independently while building strong and effective relationships across a complex multi-agency partnership.
- A commitment to relational, inclusive, and anti-discriminatory practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
