Local Government Accountant x2
Directorates - Children & Young People & Adult Social Care
Duration: 3 months +
Location: London Borough
Salary: £300 - £400/day
Work arrangement: 2-3 days in the office
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on budget setting, forecasting, monitoring, and year-end closure activities for a portfolio of services within Adult Social Care and/or Children & Young People's Services.
- Provide high-quality financial advice, challenge, and business partnering support to budget holders, service managers, and senior stakeholders.
- Support the financial planning and management of complex, demand-led budgets, ensuring financial risks and opportunities are identified and reported.
- Prepare financial analysis, statutory returns, grant claims, and funding submissions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and deadlines.
- Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and performance information to support strategic decision-making.
- Operate and improve financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.
- Work closely with operational teams to support service transformation, savings programs, and efficiency initiatives.
- Lead and/or contribute to finance improvement projects, service reviews, and organizational transformation programs.

Required Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience working within a Local Authority finance function.
- Experience of budget setting, forecasting, financial monitoring, and year-end accounts processes.
- Strong business partnering skills.
- Experience supporting Adult Social Care and/or Children's Services is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of local government finance regulations, grant funding, and statutory reporting requirements.
- CCAB qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience will be considered.
