About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional leader to guide the Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) Business Unit through the next phase of its development.
In this influential role, you will ensure the effective delivery of statutory safeguarding responsibilities while driving the continuous improvement of multi-agency safeguarding arrangements across Somerset. You will lead and develop the Business Unit, oversee partnership resources, champion the voices of children and young people, and work closely with partner organisations to strengthen safeguarding practice and outcomes.
This is a high-profile role across the children's workforce, requiring a strong understanding of the safeguarding agenda and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced and complex environment. You will bring significant experience of partnership working and be skilled at building positive and productive relationships with senior leaders and practitioners across health, education, police, social care, and the voluntary, community and private sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping safeguarding arrangements and making a lasting difference to the lives of children, young people and families across Somerset.
How You’ll Make a Difference
- Coordinate the effective day-to-day operational management of the Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership’s work.
- Provide a clear and coherent approach to business planning for the SSCP and including ensuring effective delivery plans for SSCP priorities as set out in the Children and Young People’s Plan.
- Provide expert and impartial professional advice and briefings to the SSCP Executive, the SSCP subgroups, and relevant agencies, on safeguarding issues such as legislation, government guidance and policy.
- Induct new SSCP Members and co-ordinate a programme of ongoing development for the SSCP.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
