Job Title: Locomotive Engineer

Location: Dollands Moor

Salary: £36,099 per annum with a shift allowance of £4,086 per annum

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Introduction

DB Cargo UK is recruiting a Locomotive Engineer in the Dollands Moor area to join our engineering team.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Locomotive Engineer, you will support the safe, efficient maintenance and operation of our locomotives. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Maintenance and Technical Duties

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Team Co-ordinator and other team members to ensure all maintenance, repair and overhaul work on traction and rolling stock (T&RS) and associated components is completed safely, thoroughly, professionally and on time.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems above Unit 339 or Unit 350 level, but below ELT1/EWT1 level.
  • Carry out work in accordance with Vehicle Maintenance and Overhaul Instructions (VMOI).
  • Assist with breakdowns, recovery operations and other T&RS-related incidents as required.
  • Report defective items and order materials when needed.

Safety and Compliance

  • Protect your own health, safety and welfare, as well as that of colleagues and others affected by your work.
  • Take prompt and appropriate action to remove or control any hazard you encounter.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly working environment.
  • Contribute to accident investigations.
  • Help develop Safe Systems of Work and risk assessments.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare accurate reports for ongoing work, including condition and production reports.
  • Contribute ideas and practical support to continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Support and Development

  • Support on-the-job training for team members, trainees, other DB Cargo UK employees and contractors.
  • Complete any training needed to support team development and depot operations, such as Designated Person (Depot), Risk Assessor or COSHH Custodian training.

Depot Operations and Equipment

  • Operate the fuel point and use its dedicated IT systems.
  • Operate powered equipment as required, including fixed and mobile cranes, wheel lathes, wheel drops, forklift trucks, road and rail vehicles, HIABs and lifting jacks, subject to the appropriate training, certification and reassessment.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and committed to learning. Extremely safety focused who can take directions from managers and adhere to our rules and regulations. Have a flexible approach, with experience in teamwork and lone working. Attention to detail, problem solving and communication are also key skills we will be looking for in the successful candidate.

Requirements For The Role

Candidates must hold a valid manual driving license, live within a 1-hour commute, NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) as a minimum. The NVQ Level 3 could have been obtained through completing an engineering apprenticeship or through a course at College/ Sixth Form in an engineering discipline. Candidates will also have hands on engineering experience which must be displayed in their application. Experience in a similar role in the rail sector would be an advantage.
