Locum Consultant Cardiologist with a Specialist Interest in Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD)
The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in congenital heart disease (ACHD) on a part-time basis (7.74PAs), for a fixed term period of 12 months. The individual should have expertise in congenital heart disease with relevant specialist higher training. There will be an additional opportunity for a specialist session for suitably trained candidates.
Role and Responsibilities
- Primary Location: John Radcliffe Hospital
- Additional Locations: Northampton General Hospital and Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading
- Flexible Shift Patterns: Required to offer services in the evenings or at weekends
The post is part of the ACHD service at Oxford University Hospitals and will involve working alongside other consultants and members of the multidisciplinary team. The role is to cover maternity leave, with the key aim being for the candidate to participate in clinical and other service activities to ensure a high standard of patient care.

The post holder will:
- Contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development
- Support advanced nurse specialists in their clinical duties
- Have access to a shared administrator and the appropriate IT equipment and support

- Collaboration: The NHS department works closely with the University Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, with rotation of clinical lecturers between the two departments and Consultants working across both departments
- Academic Interests: Myocardial hypertrophy, vascular biology, and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging

- Referrals: Good relations with colleagues in neighbouring district general hospitals ensure a flow of referrals, both elective and emergency
