An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Locum Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Heart Failure and Complex Devices to join our high‑performing team of 17 consultants at the University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB).

We are seeking a clinician with expertise in advanced heart failure management, device therapy (including complex pacing and ICD/CRT implantation), and an enthusiasm for service development within this expanding subspecialty. Additional complementary interests—such as advanced echocardiography, cardiac CT/MRI, EP, or inherited cardiac conditions—are welcomed.

This post is offered as a fixed‑term appointment to provide maternity leave cover until June 2027, supporting the delivery and continuity of our heart failure and complex device services. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of high‑quality clinical care within the department, working closely with the existing heart failure and device consultants to maintain and enhance service provision.

The Derby & Burton Heart Centre

The Derby & Burton Heart Centre is one of the UK’s largest non‑surgical cardiology units, serving a population of over one million across Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

  • Two modern interim cardiac catheter laboratories (Philips/Siemens) delivering PCI and pacing services.
  • Approximately 1,300 PCI procedures annually, including 24/7 PPCI with around 400 primary PCI cases per year.
  • Full capability for complex coronary intervention: rotablation, IVUS, OCT, FFR, and a dedicated CTO service.
  • A significant expansion underway, which includes a purpose‑built pacing laboratory and three state‑of‑the‑art interventional labs due to open at the Royal Derby Hospital in July 2026.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
