About the Role
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious and dynamic individual to join our committed and well-integrated multidisciplinary team, providing high standard care.
This post is for a 2-year fixed-term Locum Consultant Haematologist responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical care to patients with a wide range of blood disorders, including haematological malignancy. The role also involves providing specialist advice on all aspects of haematology to colleagues across the Trust and in Primary Care.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be based at Furness General Hospital, with flexibility to work across Trust sites, including Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Outpatient activity will include general haematology clinics, with the opportunity to develop a sub-specialist interest. Clinics are delivered within oncology units across the three sites, in close proximity to chemotherapy delivery areas.
The postholder will provide full clinical care for patients with haematological conditions, including haematological malignancy. They will deliver specialist haematology advice to colleagues within the Trust and in Primary Care, supporting safe and effective patient management.

The role includes contributing to clinical laboratory services at Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The appointee will also participate in the consultant on-call rota, providing cover across all Trust hospitals.
Job Details
- Post Type: Full-time 10 PA with 2 additional programmed activities (APA)
- Subject to: Negotiation and reviewed annually through the job planning process
- Outpatient Clinics: Typically three general haematology outpatient clinics per week, alongside developing and maintaining a sub-specialist interest aligned to service needs
- On-Call Rota: Expectation for the successful candidate to participate in a 1 in 5/6 on-call rota, which attracts an additional 1 PA and a 5% supplement
Location
The Hospitals are situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park, surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty offering superb outdoor and recreational activities, related to the sea, lakes, fells, and countryside.

Education
UHMB has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Health Education England North West (HEENW), the General Medical Council (GMC) and our local medical schools, to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBT provide clinical placements for Medical Students from Lancaster Medical School and Medical Students and Student Physician Associates from the University of Central Lancashire. We also provide training for our doctors in training, specialty doctors, and GP trainees as well as supporting the development of our consultant educators.
