The hospital hosts regional centres for spinal injuries and bone and soft tissue tumour services, and provides specialist care for metabolic disorders, inflammatory arthritis, and paediatric orthopaedic conditions. The Trust also offers services for private patients within the Ludlow Unit.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Locum Consultant Orthopaedic and Oncology Surgeon role based in Oswestry. The post holder will provide consultant-led care for patients with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal oncology conditions, including assessment, diagnosis, surgical management, and post-operative follow-up. - Running outpatient clinics
- Performing elective and emergency surgery
- Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings
- Contributing to care pathways for bone and soft tissue tumour patients

The role involves:
- Supporting junior medical staff through supervision and teaching
- Contributing to clinical governance
- Engaging in audit and service development related to orthopaedic oncology
- Participation in on-call rotas
- Effective collaboration with colleagues across spinal injuries, tumour services, and paediatric orthopaedics
Qualifications
- Possession of relevant medical degree (e.g., MBBS or equivalent) and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), with licence to practise.
- Completion of higher specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics, with substantial experience in orthopaedic oncology and complex musculoskeletal tumour surgery.
- Recognised certificate of completion of training (CCT) or equivalent, and eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma and Orthopaedics (or within accepted timeframe).
- Demonstrated skills in clinical assessment, diagnostic decision-making, and operative management of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal oncology conditions.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, including oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, specialist nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit, quality improvement, and adherence to clinical governance and patient safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamworking skills, with the ability to supervise and mentor junior medical staff and other learners.
- Commitment to continuing professional development, teaching, and, where possible, involvement in research or innovation in orthopaedics and oncology.
