Consultant Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiologist
Role Overview
Applicants are invited for a locum full-time (1.0 WTE) consultant musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologist post with an interest in major trauma imaging. The post has arisen due to expansion of the service and reconfiguration of the existing MSK imaging team. The appointment offers an opportunity to strengthen an established team of MSK radiologists, some of whom also support major trauma services.
Key Responsibilities
- Rapid access and safe, efficient reporting: Inpatient and emergency workload are key priorities.
- Contribute to department work: Including plain film and CT reporting, delivered by a large consultant team across 7 days, and includes a day time duty rota, scheduled but infrequent and flexible sessions at weekends and extended weekdays.
- Regular evening sessions: As part of the job plan.
- Training and research: Contribute to training and, if appropriate, research, as well as working with the Divisional and Directorate management team to help manage and improve the service effectively.

Experience and Training
- Formal training: In MSK and major trauma radiology.
- Experience: All aspects of MSK and general cross-sectional imaging.
- Approximate work distribution: Approximately 60% of their time will be dedicated to MSK subspecialty work including ultrasound, all aspects of cross-sectional imaging, image guided procedures, MDTs and plain film reporting.
- General work in the department: Including duty “hot desk” reporting, general CT and plain radiographs.
- Extended day: Regularly provide consultant presence from Monday to Friday between 5pm to 8pm. This will involve reporting A&E and inpatient scans to support the radiology registrars and fellows.
Professional Activities
- Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PA per week for CPD, Statutory mandatory training, and Governance.
- Site: To be finalised across the three main sites (CXH, HH, and SMH) after appointment of the post. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to undertake sessions at one of the new CDCs.
