Consultant in Respiratory Medicine
About the Role
This is a full-time (10 PA), 12-month fixed-term post for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. The post forms part of the ongoing expansion and transformation of Respiratory Medicine at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and offers significant opportunities for clinical leadership, innovation, and service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside Consultant Respiratory colleagues to provide inpatient and outpatient respiratory care, including general respiratory and tuberculosis clinics, Respiratory Hot Clinic activity, bronchoscopy, pleural procedures, and participation in the General Internal Medicine on-call service.
- Contribute to departmental governance activities, including Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) processes, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, and multidisciplinary working.
- Participate in a consultant-led Respiratory Referral Triage and Direct Access pathway, complementing the established Advice & Guidance service.
- Support early senior clinical review of accepted respiratory referrals, appropriate allocation to general or specialist respiratory pathways, and access to relevant investigations prior to the first outpatient assessment where appropriate.

Requirements
- Broad-based training in Respiratory Medicine.
- Excellent clinical and communication skills.
- Demonstrable commitment to service improvement, education, governance, and patient-centred care.
- Participation in annual job planning, appraisal, and GMC revalidation processes.
About the Trust
Hillingdon Hospital is the only acute hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and maternity services. Our services are provided from both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital. The Trust has a turnover of around £250 million. We manage 614 inpatient beds and employ over 3,300 staff. We deliver high-quality healthcare to the residents of the London Borough of Hillingdon and increasingly to those living in the surrounding areas of Ealing, Harrow, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire, giving us a total catchment population of over 350,000 people.

The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit, and outpatient clinics. The Trust also acts as a landlord to a number of other organisations that provide health services at Mount Vernon, including East & North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s Cancer Centre.
