Locum Consultant in the Department of Rheumatology
This is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Rheumatologist, with special interests in experience and interest in a subspecialty area. This post will be available from October 2026 for a period of 6 months.
This post will deliver 10PAs supporting the Rheumatology team. The post-holder will provide Clinical duties, mainly outpatient-based in general and subspecialty Rheumatology. There will be opportunities to deliver service improvements.
The post will be based at Chapel Allerton Hospital.
The successful applicant should hold accreditation in MRCP in the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
Applicants should have established skills across Rheumatology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Job Summary
To deliver care to patients attending Rheumatology outpatients clinics at CAH.
- Out-patient clinics, specifically including ultrasound, early arthritis, and general rheumatology, but can also be expanded to other subspecialty clinics within the constraints of the job plan.
- To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant specialist teams within the CSU and across the trust.
- To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within the Rheumatology department. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs ongoing in the department. Experience in rheumatology research will be valued for this.

The Rheumatology department in Leeds is internationally renowned for treatment and research and offers the highest levels of service and access to world-class treatment in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
The Clinical Service Unit at Chapel Allerton Hospital consists of the Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Rheumatology, and Dermatology and complex rehabilitation services.
The Rheumatology department is predominantly based at Chapel Allerton Hospital, Leeds. We have dedicated facilities for outpatient clinics, including imaging facilities with MSK ultrasound in clinic, inpatient wards, and a day case unit. In addition to 20 substantive consultants, there is a strong middle grade workforce of specialist trainees and clinical nurse specialists.
The department is closely linked to the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre and the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Leeds, which are both on site at Chapel Allerton Hospital.
The department provides secondary and tertiary services, including as a regional specialist center of excellence.

This post is for 6 months at 10 PAs per week. The post is mainly outpatient-based as a Locum Consultant in Rheumatology, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Experience and interest in a subspecialty area is desirable.
Proposed Job Plan - The post consists of 10 PAs with 9 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 PA of supporting professional activity (SPA).
The appointee must hold accreditation in MB BS (or equivalent), MRCP (or equivalent).
