Role Description
The Locum Optometrist will provide comprehensive, person-centered eye examinations and follow-up care for patients in an independent practice setting. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Conducting routine and specialist assessments
- Diagnosing and managing ocular conditions within the scope of practice
- Collaborating on myopia management, dry eye care, visual comfort assessments, and pediatric eye care
- Advising on clinical findings
- Discussing treatment and management options
- Working closely with the dispensing and practice team to deliver tailored eyewear solutions and a high standard of patient experience

The role involves maintaining accurate clinical records, supporting continuity of care, and contributing to a calm, detail-focused environment that reflects the practice’s values. This is a part-time, on-site role located in Haywards Heath.
Qualifications
- Current registration with the General Optical Council (GOC) and eligibility to practice as an Optometrist in the UK; relevant professional indemnity cover.
- Strong clinical skills in comprehensive eye examinations, refraction, contact lens fitting, and detection and management of common ocular conditions.
- Experience or interest in specialist areas such as dry eye management, myopia management, children’s vision, and visual comfort assessments.
- Ability to use modern diagnostic equipment and practice management systems confidently and accurately.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach and the ability to build trust with individuals and families.
- Attention to detail in clinical record-keeping, adherence to professional and regulatory standards, and commitment to evidence-based practice.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with the wider practice team to deliver consistent, high-quality service.
- Flexibility and reliability in a locum capacity, with the ability to adapt to practice protocols and contribute positively to the practice culture.
- Previous experience in independent practice or premium eyecare environments is advantageous.
