We are Hiring: Locum Planning Solicitor
Contract: Temporary / Locum
Rate: £45.84 per hour
Working Arrangement: Remote
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Locum Planning Solicitor to provide specialist legal advice on a broad range of planning law matters within a Local Authority. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, advise planning officers and committees, and ensure legal compliance across planning and development matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of planning law matters with minimal supervision.
- Draft, negotiate, and complete Section 106 (S106) and Section 278 (S278) agreements.
- Advise on planning applications, enforcement, planning appeals, and judicial review matters.
- Provide legal support to Planning Committees and attend meetings when required.
- Draft legal opinions, agreements, reports, and other planning-related documentation.
- Advise officers, councillors, and senior stakeholders on planning legislation and policy.
- Ensure compliance with planning law, local government regulations, and governance requirements.
- Liaise with external solicitors, developers, consultants, and counsel as necessary.

Essential Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (England & Wales).
- Significant experience in Planning Law, preferably within a UK Local Authority.
- Proven expertise in drafting S106 and S278 agreements.
- Experience advising on planning enforcement, appeals, and development management matters.
- Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload independently and meet deadlines.

Desirable
- Advocacy or committee attendance experience.
- Knowledge of highways, regeneration, environmental, or compulsory purchase law.
- Experience working remotely within a Local Government legal team.
