Logistics Manager – Data Centre Project, London

Reporting to: Project Director / Construction Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to join the project delivery team on a large-scale, fast-track data centre project in London.
The Logistics Manager will take overall responsibility for the planning, coordination and day-to-day management of site logistics, ensuring that personnel, materials, plant and equipment can move safely and efficiently throughout the project.
This is a key site-based role requiring close coordination with the CSA, Mechanical, Electrical and Commissioning teams, as well as multiple subcontractors operating within a complex construction environment.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive approach to logistics, identifying constraints in advance and ensuring logistics activities support rather than restrict the construction and commissioning programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain the project Site Logistics Plan and Traffic Management Plan.
- Take ownership of the overall day-to-day site logistics operation.
- Manage and coordinate all site deliveries, including booking systems, delivery routes, unloading areas and material distribution.
- Produce and maintain 2–6 week logistics look-ahead schedules aligned with the construction programme.
- Coordinate major plant and equipment deliveries including generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, batteries, PDUs, CRAHs, AHUs, pumps, busbar and other critical equipment.
- Coordinate craneage, lifting operations, hoists, forklifts, telehandlers and specialist material movements with the relevant appointed persons and subcontractors.
- Manage construction hoists, goods lifts and vertical transportation to ensure efficient movement of materials between floors.
- Manage site access routes, loading areas, laydown zones, storage areas and pedestrian routes.
- Ensure fire routes, emergency access, escape routes and critical working areas remain clear at all times.
- Coordinate logistics requirements across CSA, Mechanical, Electrical and Commissioning contractors.
- Manage logistics operatives, traffic marshals, banksmen and logistics subcontractors.
- Control material storage and prevent excessive or uncontrolled storage within data halls, plant rooms, corridors and access routes.
- Ensure floor-loading restrictions and designated storage requirements are understood and maintained.
- Take ownership of the site housekeeping and waste management strategy, including waste segregation and regular removal.
- Monitor subcontractor housekeeping performance and escalate repeated non-compliance.
- Coordinate abnormal and out-of-hours deliveries where required.
- Identify logistics constraints that could impact programme milestones and develop appropriate mitigation measures.
- Attend construction, logistics and subcontractor coordination meetings.
- Support phased completion and handover of areas from construction into commissioning.
- Coordinate logistics around energised areas, commissioning activities, FPT and IST, ensuring construction activities do not compromise testing or completed installations.
- Ensure completed and commissioned equipment is appropriately protected through to final handover.
- Maintain accurate logistics trackers, delivery schedules and reporting information.
- Ensure all logistics activities are undertaken in accordance with project Health & Safety requirements.

Experience & Skills
The successful candidate should have:
- Previous experience as a Logistics Manager on a major construction project.
- Data centre / mission-critical project experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working for a General Contractor / Main Contractor.
- Strong understanding of complex construction and MEP environments.
- Experience coordinating major equipment deliveries and lifting operations.
- Experience managing construction hoists and vertical logistics.
- Good understanding of traffic management, temporary access arrangements and material storage.
- Ability to understand construction programmes and translate them into short-term logistics plans.
- Strong knowledge of construction Health & Safety requirements.
- Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage and challenge multiple subcontractors operating simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project management, construction and commissioning teams.
- Ability to work within a high-pressure, fast-track project environment.

Qualifications
- SMSTS preferred.
- Appropriate CSCS card.
- Relevant logistics, lifting or construction management qualifications advantageous.
- First Aid qualification advantageous.
- Previous mission-critical/data centre training or experience advantageous.

The Logistics Manager will be expected to ensure:
- Major deliveries are properly planned and communicated.
- Materials and equipment reach the required location when needed.
- Logistics activities do not create avoidable programme delays.
- Safe vehicle and pedestrian movements are maintained.
- Hoists and vertical transportation are efficiently utilised.
- Storage and laydown areas remain controlled.
- High standards of housekeeping are maintained.
- Major lifting and equipment movements are coordinated in advance.
- Logistics arrangements support construction, commissioning and handover milestones.
- Subcontractors comply with the project logistics strategy.
This is a hands-on, site-based position. The successful candidate must be visible on site, understand the programme and actively coordinate upcoming requirements rather than simply manage deliveries at the site gate.
