Logistics Planner

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Whittlesey team in the position of Logistics Planner.

This role is responsible for planning customer deliveries, optimising fleet utilisation, supporting service levels and helping to drive cost efficiency across the transport operation.

The role works closely with drivers, transport coordinators, sales teams, customers and third-party hauliers to ensure deliveries are planned effectively, issues are resolved quickly and customer expectations are met.

Your Duties

  • Plan customer deliveries using the scheduling system, working to agreed planning lead times.
  • Optimise driver loads and fleet utilisation across dedicated depots.
  • Support KPIs including loads per day, cost per load, service levels and delivery performance.
  • Identify and arrange third-party haulage where required to ensure work is covered.
  • React quickly and professionally to urgent loads, changes, failed loads or uncovered work.
  • Resolve day-to-day planning issues involving drivers, customers, sales teams and transport coordinators.
  • Communicate delivery progress, changes and risks clearly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Review reports and system data to identify opportunities for improved planning, efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Minimise empty running and support continuous improvement across the transport operation.
  • Ensure planning activity is completed in line with company procedures, transport requirements and health and safety expectations.

About You

  • Good understanding of transport operations and relevant transport legislation.
  • Strong computer literacy, with experience using routing, scheduling or resource planning systems.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues across different teams.
  • Good attention to detail, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • A proactive, flexible and committed approach.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts between 6am and 6pm.
  • Understanding of Working Time Directive requirements.

Desirable

  • CPC qualification.
  • Previous transport planning or transport management experience.
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English, grade C / level 4 or above.
