Role Description

The Freelance Camera Assistant will support video production projects across branding and advertising campaigns in the London Area, United Kingdom. This is a contract, hybrid role, combining on-site work at shoots in and around London with some tasks that can be completed from home, such as equipment prep documentation, shot list review, and coordination with the production team.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Assisting with camera equipment setup and breakdown
  • Managing lenses, batteries, media cards, and accessories
  • Helping maintain technical standards during shoots
  • Following directions from the Director of Photography and camera operator
  • Supporting lighting and framing tasks as needed
  • Ensuring smooth on-set operations, including organizing gear and maintaining a safe, professional working environment
  • Communicating effectively with crew members
  • Responding quickly to changing production needs
  • Delivering work that aligns with Vebu.co.uk’s quality and client-focused standards

Qualifications

  • Strong foundational skills in camera operation support, including assisting with setup, focus pulling, lens changes, and media management.
  • Practical knowledge of video lighting basics, shot composition, and on-set workflows for branded and advertising content.
  • Ability to handle and maintain camera, grip, and related equipment safely, with attention to detail and organization.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work smoothly with directors, camera operators, producers, and other crew members.
  • Proven reliability and punctuality, with the capacity to work flexible hours and travel within the London Area for shoots.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid environment, combining on-location production days with remote coordination and prep tasks.

Beneficial

  • Prior experience as a camera assistant or runner on commercial, branded, or social media video projects.
  • Familiarity with digital cinema cameras, basic editing or media backup workflows, and an understanding of marketing or agency environments.
  • Relevant education or training in film, media production, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
