The Silver Line Helpline is recruiting for Loneliness & Support Officers

The Silver Line Helpline is a free, confidential telephone service offering friendship, conversation and support to older people, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Representing the values of The Silver Line Helpline and Age UK, you will be the first point of contact for incoming calls from older people in need of support or just a friendly chat. Given the nature of the helpline each day will be varied and you will need to be adaptable to lots of unique situations.

Working as part of this supportive team, you will adhere to all safeguarding procedures in order to keep callers safe from potential abuse or neglect.

Please note: We are recruiting for two part-time overnight roles, each working 28 hours per week from 11:00 pm to 6:45 am at our enhanced night-time hourly rate of £16.35.

These exciting positions offer hybrid working between home and our Blackpool office. We currently require office attendance a minimum of once a quarter. You may also be asked to attend the office occasionally for training or other reasons, as required. You will be on a hybrid contract and must cover the costs of all travel to the office yourself. Our office attendance requirements will be reviewed later in 2026.

These are part-time vacancies working 28 hours across days and evenings.

IMPORTANT: Please note - this post requires weekend and bank holiday working on a shift pattern basis. Example shift rotas will be provided during the recruitment process, and you will be required to review them to confirm that the schedule is suitable for you.

Interviews for shortlisted applicants will take place via Teams W/c 21st September 2026. If successful, the first 3 induction days will be onsite in our Blackpool office.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
