Long/Short Equity Analyst (Financials or Industrials)
Location: London
Experience: 3-6 Years
Strategy: Fundamental Long/Short Equity
A leading hedge fund is seeking a Fundamental Equity Analyst to work directly alongside a Portfolio Manager, focusing on either Financials or Industrials. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating differentiated long and short investment ideas through deep fundamental research, financial analysis, and industry due diligence. This is a highly visible role offering direct exposure to investment decision-making and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth fundamental research on companies within the Financials or Industrials sectors.
- Develop high-conviction long and short investment ideas supported by detailed analysis and clear catalysts.
- Build and maintain complex financial models, earnings forecasts, and valuation frameworks.
- Monitor company developments, earnings releases, industry trends, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic factors.
- Perform channel checks and engage with management teams, industry experts, competitors, and sell-side analysts.
- Present investment recommendations directly to the Portfolio Manager and defend investment thesis with conviction.
- Track portfolio positions and continuously reassess risk/reward dynamics.
- Identify variant perceptions and opportunities where market expectations diverge from underlying fundamentals.

Candidates should possess a strong understanding of balance sheet analysis, capital ratios, asset quality, profitability drivers, regulatory developments, and valuation methodologies such as P/TBV and ROE-based frameworks.

Requirements
- 2-6 years of experience within Long/Short Equity for the buy side, sell-side profiles will need a minimum of 5 years.
- Strong financial modelling, accounting, and valuation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent fundamental research and develop differentiated investment views.
- Experience covering Financials or Industrials is strongly preferred.
- Genuine passion for investing, public markets, and stock picking.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-oriented hedge fund environment.
- Strong academic background; CFA designation or progress towards CFA is advantageous.
