L/S Investment Analyst – AI-Enabled Equities Strategy, London
Octavius Finance is working with an established boutique investment business that is preparing to launch a new AI-enabled systematic equities strategy to external investors later this year.
The strategy has been in research and development for approximately four years and combines the discretionary investment expertise and conviction of an experienced Portfolio Manager with technology, AI and systematic processes designed to streamline and enhance the investment decision-making process.
Having recently secured its first external seed capital from an established institutional investor, the business has ambitious plans to scale the strategy significantly, having raised approximately $100m over the past 12 months with a longer-term target of $1bn. As the strategy moves towards its external launch, the team is looking to hire an Investment Analyst to work closely with the Portfolio Manager and take ownership of the fundamental and alternative data that feeds into the investment process.
The Role
The successful candidate will sit at the intersection of fundamental equity research, alternative data and AI, ensuring that the Portfolio Manager has the highest-quality information available when making investment decisions.
Initially, the focus will be on managing and interpreting a significant flow of data across news, company information, alternative datasets, risk indicators and other market inputs. The analyst will be responsible for assessing the quality and relevance of this information and ensuring that key insights are surfaced effectively for the Portfolio Manager.
Over time, the role will evolve towards deeper fundamental analysis, including conducting detailed research into companies and sectors and developing independent views that can support the investment process.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The role will also involve working closely with the engineering and technology teams. The successful candidate will provide qualitative oversight of data pipelines, identify areas for improvement and help ensure that the outputs being generated are both technically robust and genuinely useful from an investment perspective.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and interpret a broad range of fundamental, alternative and market data used within the investment process
- Analyse company and equity-market information to identify relevant insights for the Portfolio Manager
- Conduct fundamental research and develop informed views on individual companies and stocks
- Assess the quality, relevance and reliability of data outputs

- Over time, transition towards deeper fundamental company research and idea generation
Candidate Profile
The team is looking for an equity markets professional first and a technologist second.
The ideal candidate will be a fundamentally minded Investment Analyst with strong equity-market knowledge and a genuine interest in using technology and AI to improve the investment process. You may come from a traditional fundamental equity research background but have developed a strong interest in alternative data, Python, AI or tools such as Claude. Alternatively, you may have experience working with alternative datasets and possess genuine domain expertise across equities.
