About Us

Our school is a Community Primary School with a Nursery attached. We have a strong and supportive Board of Governors, which includes representatives of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, parents, the local community, and staff. We set very high standards across the school and offer a broad range of experiences and opportunities for our pupils.

Our school is fortunate to be located in a lovely rural setting, surrounded by farmland, countryside, and the coast. We serve the local village and MOD base at St Athan.

The whole school community work in partnership to provide a bright, welcoming, and stimulating learning environment to inspire and support our curriculum.

We encourage an open-door policy at St Athan Primary School and welcome parental involvement at all times. We value all our pupils and believe it is our responsibility to ensure their time in school is rewarding and fulfilling.

Our school has a very warm, friendly, and welcoming ethos, and we ensure all pupils feel cared for, protected, and that their wellbeing is at the forefront of all our policies and procedures.

About The Role

Pay Details

  • SCP 8 (Level 3) £27,709 - £29,524 pro rata / £14.36 - £15.31 p/h

Hours of Work / Weeks per year / Working Pattern

  • 30 Hours per week / 39 weeks per year / daily during term time (subject to change depending on the needs of the school)

Description

  • To support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning, this could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in specific areas or personal care.
  • To work under the guidance of teaching and/or the school leadership team and within an agreed system of supervision, contributing to the teacher's planning cycle to ensure all pupils have equal access to learning.

About You

Qualifications

  • Very good numeracy/literacy skills.
  • NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification.
  • Appropriate first aid training.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • How to support children in literacy and numeracy.
  • How to support ALN pupils (ASD/ADHD).
  • How children learn and how to motivate them.
  • The principles of child development and the learning process.
  • Principles of positive behavior management.
  • Safeguarding processes.

Skills

  • Work with an individual or a group.
  • Reinforce teaching points during teacher input.
  • Model acceptable behavior.
  • Use specialist (curricular/learning) skills/training/experience to support pupils.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of IDPs.
  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, toileting, feeding, and mobility, with administration of medication as required.
