Job Description
About the team
Castrol Technology develops the products, technologies, and technical solutions that power Castrol’s performance today while creating opportunities for future growth. Bringing together global expertise across seven Technology Centres in formulation science, chemistry, engineering, product development, and testing, we co-engineer solutions that optimise performance for customers across traditional lubricant applications and emerging technologies.
We’re now hiring a Lubricants Senior Technologist to join our UK Technology Centre in Reading, supporting the Castrol Europe Performance Unit.
You’ll be part of the Technology Deployment Team, working at the interface between Global R&D, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, manufacturing, and OEM technology teams. The team plays a critical role in turning product innovation into commercially successful solutions for customers across Europe.
This is a highly collaborative role for someone who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and stakeholder influence. You’ll have the opportunity to work across functions and markets, shape the successful introduction of new lubricant technologies, and help solve complex technical challenges for one of the world’s most recognised lubricant brands.
Key tasks
- Lead the deployment of new lubricant formulations and products across European markets, coordinating activity across technology, sales, marketing, supply chain, and manufacturing.
- Translate customer and market requirements into clear technical requirements for product development teams.
- Embed Quality Assurance processes across the plants and conduct Quality Assurance assessments with 3rd parties.
- Act as a key technical interface between product development, OEM technology, marketing, sales, supply chain, and customer-facing teams.
- Coordinate technical specifications, blending requirements, plant trials, testing, and formulation approvals.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support for manufacturing and blending issues, including raw material shortages, quality incidents, and customer complaints.
- Ensure product claims are technically substantiated and aligned with regulatory and marketing requirements.
- Develop and deliver technical communications and training to support new product launches, adapting global materials for regional and local audiences.
- Provide technical input into tenders, new market opportunities, procurement evaluations, and formulation optimisation.
- Identify opportunities to improve formulation cost competitiveness, supply resilience, and overall product performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
