I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Applicants must therefore be willing to undertake planned evening, night and weekend working, together with occasional emergency callout support.
Where possible, planned works will be organised in advance and shared across the team. However, out-of-hours working is an essential requirement of this position.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is technically capable, safety focused and comfortable taking responsibility as an Authorised Person.
You should be able to remain calm during faults and shutdowns, follow agreed switching procedures, challenge unsafe working practices and communicate confidently with clients, engineers and management.
Above all, we want someone who takes electrical safety seriously, does not take shortcuts and understands the responsibility that comes with being an AP.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join a developing Electrical Infrastructure Department working across HV/LV infrastructure, critical power systems, shutdown management, electrical maintenance and fault response.
For the right person, there will also be opportunities to continue developing through the AP/SAP structure and take on greater technical responsibility.
Salary and package will be discussed based on experience, qualifications and current level of authorisation.
