Description

Sumer is the fastest-growing accountancy practice in the UK, dedicated to championing small and medium businesses and helping communities prosper across the UK and Ireland. This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious team at the early stages of its journey.

Operating within a buy and build “Hub and Spoke” business model, we combine the indispensable value of leading regional practices with the tech, scale, and breadth of expertise of a national organisation.

M&A is fundamental to the Sumer business model and is critical to the overall growth strategy. Sat at the centre of the Sumer Group, this role will be part of a small M&A team that is dedicated to executing M&A opportunities across the UK and potentially internationally.

A fast-paced and diverse role, working in a collaborative culture, it requires high-energy, experience of the M&A lifecycle and most importantly, an open mindset and willingness to learn!

Key Responsibilities

  • Researching, collecting and organising financial and operational data from multiple sources in order to inform the M&A strategy
  • Helping to drive and maintain data accuracy, integrity, and consistency in support of M&A activity
  • Working with the M&A team to evaluate potential new acquisitions targets against set criteria and performance KPIs.
  • Support the production and drafting of compelling board level reports associated with the acquisition strategy, as well as the ongoing performing monitoring of acquisitions across set KPIs.
  • Support and undertake financial due diligence activity conducted by the Sumer M&A team on potential targets.
  • Building relationships with a number of stakeholders outside of the direct M&A team: Sumer Exco and the Board, third party introducers, management teams of potential targets, management teams of acquired target.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Demonstrable experience working in M&A related functions e.g. transactions services or corporate finance
  • Knowledge/qualifications relating to financial performance (e.g. ACA, ACCA or relevant degree)
  • Strong analytical and data modelling skills including high degree of competency using supporting tools such as Microsoft Excel and other data visualisation tools, making analysis accessible and meaningful
  • Ability to translate financial analysis into clear, concise written reports, preparing high-quality first drafts for review
  • Ability to coach and develop analysts, particularly in delivering financial analysis and due diligence reports
  • A keen interest in M&A and supporting acquisition activities
  • Commercially minded, adaptable and proactive, with a willingness to take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment
