In this role, you will help shape our inorganic growth agenda by identifying, developing, and advancing M&A and strategic business development opportunities that support long-term growth.
Role Overview
As M&A Business Development Manager, you will work across business units and senior stakeholders to spot growth opportunities, build investment cases, and help move priority transactions and partnerships forward. You will combine market insight, financial analysis, and cross-functional coordination to support Johnson Controls' corporate development objectives.
What You Will Do
- Identify and evaluate inorganic growth opportunities across adjacent markets, new lines of business, and strategic partnership opportunities.
- Conduct market research, segmentation, and competitive analysis to support growth theses and target prioritization.
- Develop business cases, investment theses, and executive presentations for senior leadership review.
- Support M&A activity from early-stage opportunity screening through diligence, negotiation, and execution support.
- Partner with finance, legal, strategy, operations, and business unit teams to assess strategic fit, value creation potential, and integration considerations.
- Prepare financial models, valuation analysis, and data-driven growth projections to support decision-making.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, entrepreneurs, investors, and external advisors as needed.
- Monitor market trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity to inform the inorganic growth pipeline.

How You Will Do It
- Take ownership of opportunities from first signal to decision, with clear accountability and strong commercial judgment.
- Stay close to the business and the market so you focus on the opportunities that matter most for customers and growth.
- Use disciplined analysis, candid communication, and continuous improvement to strengthen every stage of the process.
- Work as one team across functions and levels, bringing trust, collaboration, and diverse perspectives into each decision.
- Balance strategic thinking with practical execution, keeping workstreams organized, well documented, and moving forward.
- Translate complex information into concise recommendations that help leaders make timely, informed decisions.
What We Look For
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in corporate development, M&A, strategic business development, investment banking, private equity, or a similar role.
- Strong financial analysis, valuation, and modeling skills.
- Experience preparing business cases, market assessments, and executive-level presentations.
- Ability to collect, evaluate, and synthesize market trends, competitive landscapes, and growth opportunities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple workstreams across functions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or a relevant finance qualification such as CIMA, ACA, or ACCA.
- Experience in the technology, industrial, or building solutions sector.
- Exposure to strategic partnerships, joint ventures, or post-deal integration activities.
